Inside the Studio of Southern Media
Today we are going to take a look inside and behind the scenes of the web design company Southern Media. This Argentinian web design company is specialized in creating user interfaces and web designs with strong focus on usability and information architecture.
Here you will learn a bit about the history of their company, take a closer look at the great portfolio they have and get inside the studio to meet the workers and the workspace.
Southern Media started by mid-2006 in my living room. After many years of doing web design as a hobbie, and while I studied Graphic Design at the University de Buenos Aires, I decided it was time to devote my time in the web professionally, doing web design and front end coding.
In 2008 this one-person project had already several regular clients and a growing reputation entirely based on a word of mouth marketing. For that reason, I decided to take the next step and, by August of that year, a second designer came in: Martin, who is currently our Chief Designer and Project Manager. By that time, Southern Media already had its own office.
Nowadays, 8 people, including me (on PR, Marketing and Customer Relations) are part of the team: two designers, three front end coders, a systems analyst and programmer, and my personal secretary.
In January, 2009 we were chosen by WooThemes (www.woothemes.com) to be part of their WooWorkers team, customizing their beautiful Premium WordPress themes. Since then, we have designed, customized and built dozens of WordPress themes of all kinds (some of them available for preview in our portfolio at www.southernmedia.org).
We consider that the best web designs become obsolete if they’re not user friendly, that’s why we’ve set as our goal to build beautiful web designs that also create the best user experiences, having both a visual and emotional impact, which generates trust to the user and leads to higher conversion rates.
HOW WE WORK
We work in a very relaxed environment, sharing mate (an Argentine typical hot drink), cookies and sweets.
We are big fans of modern design, typography and technology. We stay up to date on the latest design trends, usability guidelines and coding thechniques by following amazing blogs such as Webictect and other great blogs out there.
